OUT WITH THE OLD. IN WITH THE WORTHY
534
The number of signatures I received to apply for the Justice of the Peace position.
1100
The number of doors I knocked on to get those signatures. I visited the homes of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents - because justice shouldn't be political.
3
The number of weeks it took to get those signatures. When I tell you I have made a commitment, I see it through to the end and I don't waste time making it happen.
What is a Justice of the Peace?
That's a great question!
It is also known as "The People's Court" because it interacts with so many parts of the community. It's sort of like Judge Judy. Some of their duties include:
Criminal & Traffic Cases
- Speeding Tickets
- DUIs and related offenses
- Class C Misdemeanors punishable by fines
- Truancy
Civil Court
Can hear cases up to $20,000
Magisterial Duties
- accepting criminal complaints
- issuing warrants
- appointing legal counsel
Other Duties
The most notable duty is the one to be able to perform marriages! However, there are still far more duties to that a JP does outside of the ones listed here.
My Vision

1 / Make Justice Accessible
Not everyone is able to afford fines as a form of punishment, which has led to a two-tier form of justice. Justice should be accessible in other ways that are equally punitive, but not financially devastating.
2 / Foster Community Engagement
Blanket forms of punishment for the same offense does nothing to solve the root of the problem. By engaging with the community, I can find where creative solutions can help issues like truancy.
3 / The Courthouse is Not a Cash Register
Unlike other JPs from previous terms, I have no ulterior motives, such as financial incentives, to being elected to this position. I'm too young to be bought by the system, which makes me trustworthy to lead as a JP.
